“Originally settled by Polynesian emigrants from surrounding island groups, the Tokelau Islands were made a British protectorate in 1889. They were transferred to New Zealand administration in 1925. Referenda held in 2006 and 2007 to change the status of the islands from that of a New Zealand territory to one of free association with New Zealand did not meet the needed threshold for approval.”
CIA's The World Factbook (2013)7
My Social and Moral Development Index does not have enough data points for Tokelau to produce an accurate ranking. As a territory of New Zealand I do not have many specific statistics for this territory in its own right.
Data from the Pew Forum, a professional polling outfit, states that in 2010 the religious makeup of this country was as follows in the table below8:
The CIA World Factbook has slightly different data, and states: Congregational Christian Church 70%, Roman Catholic 28%, other 2%. note: on Atafu, all Congregational Christian Church of Samoa; on Nukunonu, all Roman Catholic; on Fakaofo, both denominations, with the Congregational Christian Church predominant9.
